There are about a billion plugins for WordPress but they are always either too much or too simple. I was actually about to write about how to show the top posts for the current month without a plugin but then decided that what the .. Let’s do it as a plugin anyway so more people can have this sort of simple yet useful functionality without getting messy with PHP.

So i present to you… Top Posts This Month.
This plugin simply gives you a widget that shows the top posts of the month by getting posts sorted by the numbers of comments made. One could also do it by gathering the number of views for pages but since WordPress doesn’t have views built in by default comments is good enough for this plugins purpose.
You’ll need to activate this plugins Widget (after plugin activation) in order to see anything. If you want you can change its title and number of posts to show as well.
Feel free to comment about this wordpress plugin or say anything smart about it.

Thanks for the plugin but I get this message:
“The plugin has produced unexpected output 6 characters during activation. If you leave the warning message “headers already sent”, problems with feeds, try disable or remove this plugin.”
The plugin is activated but the widget does not leave either the title or edit the number of entries to display. Nothing. No post is displayed in the sidebar.
Please forgive my poor English

Probably a headers problem as suggested. I’ll check if i can reproduce the problem later on.

Was able to use this only after adding: post_type = ‘post’ to the sequel query as it was including pages as well as posts.
Thanks for the plugin though!

Also, the whitespace in your php between functions caused some problems when activating another plugin.
Hope this helps.
